For a while, I've been thinking of putting an incredibly beautiful fashion-istic selection of patterns and inspiration on here. And I'm definitely planning to do that this year (more on this later!). But to get things going, and to give myself a little bit of practice, I decided to use The Craft Room in all its glory to obsess over one of my greatest loves of all time: colour.
There is no better month for rich and wonderful colour than October. (Okay, there might be close competition the whole year round.)
Would you look at that? Gorgeous red, orange, and plum purple - it's all here. Anyway, I was thinking of making patterns this autumn, but I thought I'd make a moodboard instead! Already, I'm thinking aran buttons, thick cable twists, and chunky wool to match.
And it gets better: the colours are so good - rich, warm, inviting - it's like having your own little October knitted into a scarf. I love it so much.
With these patterns, it's best to keep them muted in colour - plain and simple, subtle, sophisticated...
Yes, I know. Completely unlike any of us. But look at it this way: if you're using a raised pattern, one with lots of detail and glamour and style, then a straight block-colour yarn can really help bring out that extra talent and skill that you've put into your work! It's always provided an excellent contrast in my own knitting projects, and it looks absolutely gorgeous on deep autumn colours.
A nice variegated yarn can really do the trick, too: just remember to keep those colours looking strong and rich, and you can do anything you want! The world is yours!
Here's another look at some fantastic pairings of colour and clothing that I've spotted in the wild. Bring on October!
