What you will need:
- One pair of knitting needles (4mm)
- Any DK yarn (at least 10g)
- 2-3g of black thread or yarn
- One sewing needle
- One pair of scissors
- One Creme Egg!
Abbreviations:
k = knit
k2tog = knit next 2 stitches together
k3tog = knit next 3 stitches together
kfb = increase 1 stitch by knitting into front and back of next stitch
st(s) = stitch(es)
skpo = slip 1 stitch, knit 1 stitch, pass slipped stitch over
Main Body:
Cast on 22 stitches (sts). Knit 14 rows.
Row 15: k1, k2tog, k3, k2tog, k6, k2tog, k3, k2tog, k1.
Knit 1 row.
Row 17: k1, k2tog, k2, k2tog, k4, k2tog, k2, k2tog, k1.
Knit 1 row.
Row 19: k1, k2tog, k1, k2tog, k2, k2tog, k1, k2tog, k1.
Knit 1 row.
Row 21: k1, k2tog, k2tog, k2tog, k2tog, k1.
Knit 1 row.
Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. With sewing needle, thread tail through all sts and sew up side seam.
Then follow the next instructions for the knitted animal you’d like to make.
Egg Cosy (Chick):
Wings (make 2):
Cast on 3 sts.
Row 1: k1, kfb, k1.
Knit 1 row.
Row 3: k1, kfb, kfb, k1.
Knit 1 row.
Row 5: k1, k2tog, k2tog, k1.
Cast off.
Beak:
Cast on 4sts. Knit 6 rows. Cast off.
With black thread, sew eyes onto upper half of egg cosy. Sew the two wings onto either side of the egg cosy. Attach the beak 1-2 rows below the eyes.
Egg Cosy (Lamb):
Ears (make 2):
Cast on 7sts. Knit 10 rows.
Next row: skpo, skpo, k3tog.
Cut yarn and thread through all stitches.
Sew the ears on either side of the cosy so that they stick out. With black thread, sew eyes onto upper half of egg cosy, then sew a mouth 1-2 rows below the eyes.
Egg Cosy (Rabbit):
Ears (make 2):
Cast on 7sts. Knit 10 rows.
Next row: skpo, skpo, k3tog.
Cut yarn and thread through all stitches.
Sew the ears on either side of the cosy so that they stick up. With black thread, sew eyes onto upper half of egg cosy, then sew a mouth 1-2 rows below the eyes, and a nose in between the eyes and the mouth.
